Legionnaires’ disease is a notifiable disease in England and Wales. Health professionals must inform local health protection teams of suspected cases. PHE (Public Health England) collects data on notifiable diseases. This data helps healthcare professionals track identify clusters and prevent outbreaks whilst monitoring trends in disease occurrence over time.
The European Surveillance Scheme (managed by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) monitors trends and detects clusters and outbreaks of travel associated Legionnaires’ disease across Europe. It contributes to the evaluation and monitoring of control and prevention programmes in collaboration with the Member States.
